Here's how we do it

Clean, ethical farming for better meat.

Six commitments, held on every animal and every harvest — the same whether you order a poultry box or a whole beef.

The Harbs Farm Standard

Six commitments

100% Grass-Fed & Finished

The standard we're known for

Our cattle feed on fresh grass in summer and hay in winter — nothing else, ever. That's how you get the best meat possible.

Hand-Processed, Small Batches

Every animal is hand-processed under USDA inspection — certified to Zabiha Halal standards under HMS — a slower, cleaner level of care you can taste.

No GMOs or Chemicals

Natural through and through, with no artificial additives or chemicals at any stage.

Humanely Raised on Pasture

Our animals spend their days outside in the fresh air, grazing on open fields.

No Antibiotics or Hormones

Healthy animals growing naturally, without any added medications or growth boosters.

Regenerative Farming

Intensive rotational grazing makes our soil richer and healthier with each passing year.

Raised, harvested, and hand-processed on one farm — nothing outsourced.

These chickens actually taste like chicken. We started with a small box just to try it — now a full box goes in the freezer every month.

Half Beef Reserve New Haven, CT

The kofta grind and burger patties disappear faster than anything else in the freezer. My kids ask for the ribeyes by name.

Whole Lamb Harvest Westchester, NY

First time buying direct from a farm and the cut sheet made it easy — leg roasts for Sunday dinners, chops for the grill.

Whole Beef Reserve Hartford, CT

We split a whole beef with my sister's family like the site suggested. Two freezers, a year of dinners, and the per-meal cost beats anything comparable.

How share pricing works

01

Reserve with a deposit

$100–$500 depending on the share — applied in full to your final total.

02

The scale sets the price

Final total = price per pound × actual hanging weight ($5.50–$9.00/lb by animal).

03

Balance at pickup

Pay the rest when your box is ready — often $10–$15 per family meal for premium, farm-direct meat.

The scale decides, not us — and your cut sheet shows the estimated take-home before you pay a dollar. Building a custom box instead? Those are fixed pack prices — what you see is what you pay, no scale involved.

Before you reserve

Questions, answered.

The things every first-time share buyer asks us — answered straight.

01Share or custom box — which should I get?

Two ways to buy the same meat. A share (eighth beef up to a whole, half or whole lamb & goat) is the deepest per-pound value: reserve with a deposit, pay by hanging weight, and your cut sheet controls every cut. A custom box is pick-and-choose: exact packs at fixed prices, paid once at checkout, no scale involved. Most families start with a box, then move to a share.

02How does the share deposit work?

Your deposit ($75–$500 depending on the share) reserves your animal from the next harvest and is applied in full to your final total. The final price is set by actual hanging weight after processing — you pay the balance at pickup or delivery. Custom boxes skip all of this: fixed pack prices, paid once.

03What is hanging weight?

The processed carcass weight your price is based on. A half beef hangs at 300–400 lb and takes home roughly 62% of that as packaged cuts. Your cut sheet shows the estimated take-home breakdown — steaks, roasts, ground — before you pay anything.

04How much freezer space do I need?

A poultry box or lamb share fits a standard fridge-freezer. A half beef wants about 10 cu ft of chest freezer — roughly a $250 one-time buy that pays for itself on the first harvest. The box builder tells you exactly what your box needs before you reserve.

05Is everything really hand-Zabiha Halal?

Every animal, every harvest — hand-processed to strict Zabiha standards under HMS certification, in USDA-inspected processing, raised and harvested on one farm. Nothing outsourced, nothing mixed in from other suppliers.

06Where do you deliver?

Across NY & CT, flash-frozen at peak freshness in insulated packaging. Prefer to see the farm? Pick up your box here and meet the people who raised it.

07What if I'm not sure what to order?

That's the box builder's job. Six quick questions — household size, how you cook, freezer space — and we size everything for you. Start with a one-to-two-month starter box and scale up when you're convinced.
